Biography: Dave Guzzi
Dave Guzzi suffered a spinal cord injury in July of 1996.He and his family discovered within days that life had forever changed in many ways, too numerous to mention. One glaring factor that needed immediate attention was that their existing home needed a remodel with estimates near $100,000.00 .They determined that their best option was to sell it and move into an apartment while they looked for a builder. They started their quest to find a builder by working with their realtor who recommended they review new homes that were listed as accessible during that falls “Parade of Homes”. What happened next was a near disaster. Builder after builder listed themselves as accessible experts but had what Dave considered no comprehension of what his needs were.
 Since Dave had acquired A.D.A. experience from when he worked for a major manufacturer of Elevator equipment, his work involving the physical layouts for those projects gave him enough experience to know that they needed a rambler layout without steps. Every builder they found wanted to put a ramp in the garage and have steps to the front door.
After wanting to give up along with much emotional turmoil they decided to review one last house that was in the “Parade of Homes”. They drove up to a house that was built by Equal Access Homes Inc. They felt they were off to a good start when they noticed the no step entry. After touring the house, they knew that they had found a builder who understood all the things that would be important for their growing family.
“What I’d really like you to understand is that my family and I have been through the building process and have experienced the need and appreciation for this home. If I had not had my accident and was planning on building or remodeling I would certainly make my home at the very least a friendly home with a no step entry. My mother for one and a few friends of mine in wheelchairs have been able to visit my home freely. They would not have been able to do so without this home as we have it today. I know we can help you make the right decisions for your new home or remodeling project. I’ve been there and I promise I’ll be there for you.
